Frequently Asked Questions
The questions that come up on most projects, answered the way we would answer them on the phone.
Getting Started
Choosing a Feeder
How do I know whether I need a bowl, a step feeder or a flexible feeder?
Roughly: a custom-tooled vibratory bowl is the best economics for one part at volume. A step feeder is right when the part is heavy, large, or would be marred by a bowl’s tumbling action, or when it has to be lifted from a waist-height load. A Bellco Flex platform earns its place when the part mix changes often enough that tooling a bowl per part stops making sense. Send us the part and the mix and we will tell you which one pays back.
What part sizes and materials can you feed?
Screws, caps, clips, connectors, stampings, implants, closures, terminals, machined components — metal and molded plastic alike. The deciding factors are geometry, weight and material rather than a size chart, so every application gets evaluated individually.
What if two ends of my part look almost identical?
That is what vision is for. A camera over the track inspects each part in flight, and a purge gate recirculates anything facing the wrong way, so the pick point only ever sees parts that passed.
Can one system feed several different parts?
Yes, in a few different ways: multiple feeders on a shared baseplate each tooled to their own part, a single unit sized to run several variants of one part, or a Flex platform with vision-guided picking. Which one is right depends on the mix.
Process
Building & Delivering
What is the lead time on a custom system?
Typical lead time is 12–14 weeks from approved design to delivery, covering SolidWorks design, customer review, tooling fabrication, bowl manufacturing and full factory acceptance testing. Rush timelines are possible on critical-path projects — ask.
Do I see the design before you build it?
Always. Every system is modeled in SolidWorks and the complete 3D model goes to you for approval before we machine a single piece of tooling. Clearances, footprint and every interface point get verified on paper first.
How do I know it works before it arrives?
Every system runs a full factory acceptance test at our Ohio facility on your parts, and it is video documented. You see the rate and the orientation demonstrated before the machine leaves.
What are the controls and components?
CUH variable-frequency digital controllers (PNP) in a lockable enclosure, Keyence sensors including shortage sensing with full stopping function, SMC pneumatics throughout, and 110V or 220V power options. Sensors wire into an I/O block that drops into your existing equipment.
Commercial
Cost, Warranty & Support
How does Bellco pricing compare to other suppliers?
Bellco systems are typically priced 20–40% below traditional suppliers. We manufacture directly — no brokers, no middlemen — which lets us compete on price without cutting engineering time, material quality or testing.
What does the warranty cover?
One year, parts and labor, on every system. You also get direct access to the engineers who built it rather than a ticket queue.
Do you offer installation and on-site support?
Yes. Remote diagnostics are provided at no charge, and we can dispatch on-site support anywhere in North America. Installation assistance and operator training are available so your team is running quickly.
Can you service or upgrade a feeder we already own?
Often, yes — retrofit hoppers, escapements, guarding and controls are all things we have built onto existing machines. Send photos and the machine details and we will tell you honestly what is worth doing and what is not.
Do you build food-grade or sanitary systems?
Yes. We build 304 and 316 stainless bowls with crevice-free, polished surfaces for cleaning and sterilization, specified for wash-down duty and GMP-compliant environments.
Do I have to buy a whole system?
No. Escapements, hoppers, conveyors and manufactured parts are all available on their own.
